The street is where the back drop of the city creates our theatre.

Music is just one of the many creative mediums the ABC Trust uses to inspire and encourage the children they help. I wanted to convey the idea of music, its immediacy and its accessibility. The artwork is a reflection of the positive work of the charity

Thito Lama
Thito Lama works with children in Saramandaia Bairro, Bahia. This is inspired by his mural as part of the Arte Consciente program which is a message from the story – click here to view – November 28th entry – 43 children were murdered by other children.

We believe the force of the street is greatly effected by the people in it, things they see and do on a daily basis effecting they way others view the street and live their lives.

As I am studying in London, I wanted to do a design that encapsulates my surroundings. I created monsters, based on rocket engines at the Science Museum. They 'break out' of the museum and go on a rampage around the city. I went out on to the streets and sketched buildings (such at the National Gallery), onto the guitar template. By combining some of the London landscape, the brief and my imagination, 'A Força Da Rua' can be seen. I included people who were on a random African drumming parade and the pigeon who kept trying to steal my pencil!

This design shows children of Brazil forced to live on the streets, Finding safety in numbers. If given the chance they could find happiness through art and music like. Then they could be in the crowd at a gallery or festival instead of a gang on the streets.

Inspired by skate, punk and hardcore music on one side and from the other, historical movements of Empires seizing territories, it is an anti-military project turned against the negative effects of using resources and people in the name of individuals who are, or dream to be, politically powerful and rich. The example is Napoleon who I presented as a skater, travelling peacefully without a strategy to enslave countries.

Music and Art can light up the lives of streetkids like rays of the sun, shining across a dark void to reach them and activate them into positive and worthwhile activities; quite literally a life-changing, and indeed life-saving, twin-force to be celebrated and encouraged everywhere, forever!
