Every day, children are forced to face the violence, extreme poverty and isolation of life on the streets of Brazil. For many, there is little hope for the future.
The ABC trust is dedicated to helping the most vulnerable children and young people of Brazil. By raising awareness and funding, we help numerous projects which give these children the support, education and inspiration they need to transform their lives.

Over the last few years we have supported 22 projects across Brazil which:

• give shelter, food and healthcare
• provide education and training
• generate confidence and self-belief

We believe that working through the arts provides a uniquely powerful way of changing lives. That’s why many of the projects we support use film, theatre, dance, music and art.

Making a Difference

Here are just a few examples of the projects we support, each of them making a huge difference in their communities:

Cinema Nosso
, is an NGO set up by internationally acclaimed film-maker and ABC patron Fernando Meirelles as a direct initiative from his award winning film ‘City of God’ to help young people from the poorest areas of Rio.
The project, supported by ABC, trains young people in all aspects of film-making and has given them the chance to learn new skills, find jobs and tell their stories to the world.

Casa Teatro Popular, based in Salvador, promotes access to the arts and gets children off the streets by opening new horizons through poetry, music and street theatre workshops

Circo Picolino, a social circus arts project for pre-school children, combats low levels of literacy and high school drop-out rates by injecting a love of learning at an early age.

AA Crianca, based in the centre of Sao Paulo, provides essential care and support and aims to reintegrate street children back into safe and supportive family relationships.
